Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, 2011, Domaine Bertagna
Note: from a .31 ha parcel situated by the abandoned tower, just above the Château de la Tour
Very generous wood toast completely dominates the fruit. I did decant this and allow it to sit for 24 hours which helped considerably though there is still a distinct smokiness to the ripe plum, earth and dark raspberry aromas.
There is good volume to the velvety medium weight flavors that possess solid power though there is an ever-so-slightly bitter character to the mildly austere finish that I suspect is wood related as the supporting phenolics appear to be ripe.
This may very well come together with time in bottle though it seems relatively clear that it will not be in the immediate future.
