Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Vergers Clos St. Marc, 2011, Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot
Pale, bright yellow. Brooding, deep aromas of grapefruit and smoky minerality. A step up in intensity and acidity over the previous samples; with its taut grapefruit pith and mineral flavors this is almost painful in the context of 2011. Finishes bracing and long, with terrific nerve and floral lift.
The grapes from these 100-year-old vines were green, noted Pillot, who told me this wine has 13.2% natural alcohol with 5 grams per liter of acidity.
